CAN Hardware Variations and Driver versions available

I have two questions

1) I wish to standardise the CAN cards that we are currently using. I have two series-2 (2 port High Speed) PCI CAN cards (Philips TJA1040) and one original (2 port High Speed) PCI CAN card. I need to replace the original one with a Series-2 card and just want to confirm that no further hardware updates have been made to this card and what I buy will be the same.

2) I have the following set up (When it is standardised):
Windows XP
LabWindows CVI 6.0
2 port High Speed Series-2 PCI CAN card

What would be the highest version of Driver that I would be able to use with this set up? or are all the drivers compatable?

At present we are running 2.1.3 which I believe to be the highest version of driver that I can use with the original CAN cards.

Many thanks for any help.

Hi

Thanks for posting your query on the National Instruments forums. With regards to 1, what NI hardware do you have? You mention a Philips TJA1040 which is third party hardware. Is the card that you refer to as 'origional one' a National Instruments card. I think there are differences with the series-2 can cards compared with the standard ones. I believe CAN 2.0B standard introduced a different fame format. All National Instruments CAN interfaces comply with the CAN 2.0B standard which supports this optional, extended frame format. This extended frame format uses 29 bits for the arbitration ID, rather than the standard 11 bits. With regard to the second set of questions we would normally advise working with the latest drivers or the drivers that will come with the hardware. You can find and download all of our driver software from the following link: www.ni.com/downloads > drivers and updates link. Please read the readme file to see if there are any known issues with upgrades. Usually with more uptodate driver releases you will find bug fixes etc.

I hope this helps!

Hi,

i guess with original board you mean the Series 1 version? See the Link below for the latest driver version for CVI 6.0 and the minimal version for Series 1.
