Wiring on Broad Reach IVN-8561

Howdy All,

Does Polarity of the 2 wires matter for Broad Reach/IVN-8561?
If so, I was thinking of connecting the the output of 1 port out through my cable, back through a temporary cable and into the other port and to another PC so I can test for connectivity via pinging.

In that case would I connect the 100 Base T1 + together or would it go + to -?

Thanks a bunch

Short answer is yes.

According to TJA1100 100BASE-T1 PHY for Automotive Ethernet

A polarity error would occur if the two signal wires of the UTP cable were mixed up at the Slave node connection.

I don't understand what you are trying to achieve. Can you show a wiring diagram?

Sure, I want to make sure communication is getting through to the DUT, Can't ping it so I want to prove out the cable vs Device vs IVN

I figure

1. Hook IVN directly to self and ping across -> Network to IVN confirmed
2. Temp cable out to DUT connector back to IVN and ping across -> cable confirmed

Mainly I wanted to know if it is polarity sensitive, will  it hurt the IVN if I get it reversed and do I hook 1 to 1, 2 to 2 or 1 to 2, 2 to 1?

Thanks

My understanding is that IVN-8561 only provides conversion on the physical layer. I don't think reversing the polarity will cause any harm. It is just like using a wrongly made RJ45 cable.

But if you don't want to take the risk, I recommend contacting NI Technical Support for confirmation.
