Need help to understand the "Set Attribute CTR" VI

Hello all,

I would need to know what will be the behaviour of a counter (I use a TIO-6601) if I configure the "Set Attribute CTR" VI with

Attribute ID = Output Mode
Attribute value type = Pulse

I read the help menu but I cannot picture it; same question with

Attribute ID = Source selection
Attribute value type = Other counter TC

Thanks for your help

Nicolas,

If you set 'Output Mode' = 'Pulse', then whenever the counter reaches TC (terminal count), it will output a pulse whose duration is one cycle of the source signal. The alternative is 'Toggle', which toggles the output state upon reaching TC. Some of the timing details are illustrated in section 3-8 in the manual.
Note in particular that the trailing edge of the pulse corresponds in time to the toggle. This can matter if your application counts up and down through TC frequently, and you use the output pulse or state for other purposes.

When you set 'Source selection' = 'Other counter TC', then your counter will increment whenever the adjacent counter reach
es TC. I think this happens independent of whether that adjacent counter toggles or pulses on reaching TC, or even if it doesn't put any hardware signal on the output pin of the terminal block at all.
The idea of "Other" counter (a.k.a. "Adjacent" counter) is very specific for the 6601. Only the following pairings are allowed: (0,1) OR (2,3).
So if you're setting up CTR 1 with 'Source selection' = 'Other counter TC', it will always be referring to CTR 0. And if you set up CTR 2, it'll be referring to CTR 3.
Be aware that if your 'Other' counter is a pulse train, there will be 2 TC's per cycle, one corresponding to each edge (each toggle).
