RS232

Hi there!

Is there a possibility to get total control over a RS232-interface (on hardware level)?
I have to create a so called "break"-signal to communicate with a Biostat B (BBI Sartorius) Fermentor-Control-Unit.
The signal is required to initiate communication with the device, therefore I have to set a certain bit in the interface-UART-chip for 60 msec to high. Any ideas?

No, DASYLab does not give you full control over the RS232 control signals. If you need to drop the DTR signal as the data request command, you must do it externally from the DASYLab software.

We were able to get a device working using Wedge software to handle the communications with the serial port, and used its DDE server to send that data to DASYLab.

Alternately, if you just need the usual Hardware Handshake, try the various settings in the Interface settings dialog. One of those may work. But, they are configured for flow control, not for data request.

Good luck,

Hi Daniel!

I also have a biostat b plus and I am wondering if you were successfull in connecting the labview to it. I am planning to buy labview and it would be very interesting to know about your experience!

regards

Helicio,

Fyi, you've asked a question of someone who hasn't visited the forums in 2 years and the question was posted to the DASYLab board. DASYLab is not LabVIEW.

There is a Sartorius driver available at http://sine.ni.com/idnetwork/main/p/sn/n25:RS.sartorius but not for your model. It's possible that it could be modified. You could also check with the vendor to see if they have a driver. If that doesn't work, post further questions to either the LabVIEW or Instrument Control boards.
