Settings with Adam 4000 modules and PCI-9118, problems

Hello

We've got a measurement and control system running on Dasy6.00.07 (P II 350MHz /Nt 4.0). Hardware is PCI-9118 and several Adam 4000 modules, which are connected to the PC's RS232 port vai Adam RS232/485 converter. We have constant problems with "Measurement have to be stopped" errors. These problem started when we added two Adam modules; 4080 frequency and 4050 digital in/out modules. Before expandin the system we could run easily 10 kHz at PCI and 10 Hz at Adam modules. To get our new system running we have to lower sample rate to 500 Hz, use block size 24 and use 4096 kb buffer size. DasyLab is running 1 Hz / block size 1. I have to combine signals from all units to the one Write-module, i use Signal Adaption module to adapt signals. System is very shaky and visualiation of modules is  slow and retard.  CombiTrigger has to be set to 10000 samples to get 1000 samples to the file. I have dream to add second PCI-9118 in to the PC, maybe....

Modules we have:
Adam 4080 (new)
Adam 4017
Adam 4018 (2 pcs.)
Adam 4050 (new)

and Advantechs PCI 9118 I/O-card.

I would be happy with 1000 Hz sample rate and 10 Hz at Adam modules.

Best regards Otto

Hello Otto,

sorry, your equipment is not useful for your application job. Yor PC have not enough power to handle the DAQ device(s) and the ADAM devices together!

I would like put in order your situation:

1) You use DASYLab 6.x on a P II 350MHz /Nt 4.0. Please note that this is a very hard a limit situation for your application. You should update your PC package.

2) You use a PCI-9118 DAQ. I think this product is from ADLink and not from Advantech. The DASYLab driver was made from DASYLab developers. But your operating system Windows NT and also DASYLab 6.x are not longer supported. Also ADLink DAQ is not longer supported. You should update on Windows XP and current DASYLab 9.x version.

3) You have the dream to add a second PCI-9118 into the PC. The current ADLink driver don't allow this feature. This is not possible. The current DASYLab 9.x support multiple DAQ devices with the National Instruments NI-DAQmx driver and Measurement Computing MCC-DAQ driver. You should update your measurement hardware with products from National Instruments or Measurement Computing.

4) There were some several updates which improve the performance for Advantech ADAM driver. But this driver is only available for current DASYLab 9.x.

5) I'm optimism that you can solve your application with a more power PC, Windows XP, DASYLab 9.x, National Instruments DAQ devices and Advantech ADAM devices.

Best regards,
MHa

Hello again

Now it works,  there was simple default that jammed whole work sheet.  Signal Adaption (full linear interpolation) was found quilty. I ran all my fast  channels throuh it, which caused system to halt. Now I use only one fast channel to reference signal and it runs great.

How did you get them going period? Im going nuts with it, I have a 4017 and a 4018m

Thought I was getting a great deal. Like the loggers. Have them hooked up but I can not link to any program. Grant it I am a novice when it comes to these things. Im a microbiologist looking for bacteria that makes electric not a programmer.

I need the most cost effective way to record data off of these loggers. Im supposesd to begin a project on friday. Dasylab? Anything. If I can just collect the numbers in a folder I can process.

Please help. Simple directions in English. lol.

Thanks
