Hi say,

When you associate the master layout with the TDR file, the dialog that you do that in has a checkbox that says "Automatically refresh master layout when loading the layout".  Please check that checkbox and resave the TDR file.  Now every time you load the TDR file it will look for the TDRM file on disk and reload it and remerge it with the TDR file contents.  This is what I tested on my end with the code I sent.  You will need to change the font size logic so it never goes negative on your end.
