HIC duration

Can anyone explain how the duration of a calculated HIC can be different from the HIC interval?

For example, I have HIC 36 with a calculated duration of only 7 ms in Diadem.  Why isn't the duration 36 ms?

Thanks

Hello JamesMc,

the HIC interval is the maximum time range in searching the greatest integral value of the HIC formula. The greatest integral value could be found in a smaller time range than the HIC interval, e.g. if the acceleration signal has one major peak. In that case the calculated HIC duration is smaller than the HIC interval.

Thanks Bernard.

I understood HIC 36 to be the maximum value of the integral over a period of 36 ms.  It's actually the maximum value of the integral over any period UP TO 36 ms.

James,

Just as an FYI, there is a document in your X:\Program Files\National Instruments\DIAdem 10.1\Manuals folder that contains a lot of useful information about the DIAdem crash functions. I have attached the latest version of the document I have for your reference.
