How to display .lvm filename in data portal?

When I drag a .lvm file to the data portal, it lists it as 'LabVIEW_Data' rather than the filename that I dragged there. When I drag another .lvm file it lists it as 'LabVIEW_Data2'. How can I get it to display the filenames that were dragged there instead of a generic 'LabVIEW_Data'?

Hey DeweyB,

If you load a file into DIAdem (empty Dataportal) the name of the root is given from the file name. In case of structured files (root - group - channel) the names of the groups are coming from the name of the groups in the loaded file. If the file doesn't contain a structure the DataPlugins typically use the file name as name for the group. And only the first loaded file can set the name of the root.
Whether your file is structured or not you can see in the NAVIGATOR browser by opening the file content.

Hi Dewey,

I agree that this is not optimal, and I recommended to R&D a month or so ago that they change the LVM DataPlugin so that it shows the file name when the listed Group name is "LabVIEW Data", the default value.  I hope that they will make this edit to the DataPlugin, but I have not heard back on this yet.

For the time being (and with DIAdem 10.1 and later), it is possible to register a special load event so that every time an *.LVM file is loaded into the Data Portal, DIAdem automatically renames the Group with the file name of that DataPlugin.  Let me know if you're interested in trying this approach.

Hi Dewey,

Unzip the below attached two VBScript files somewhere on your hard drive where you're willing to leave them.  Then run the "Custom LVM Load.VBS" in DIAdem SCRIPT.  Now drag a new LVM file into the Data Portal.  You should see the Group take on the name of the LVM file.  The custom load event only renames the Group if the channels in that last Group were loaded with the "LVM" DataPlugin.

You can configure your DIAdem to always start with the "Custom LVM Load.VBS", declared as part of DIAdem's launch cycle, by editing the "Start Script" field in the "General Settings" dialog and then saving the settings prior to shutting down DIAdem.

It doesn't seem to be working for me. My *.lvm files are generated by "Write to Measurement file.vi" in LavVIEW 8.2. They show up under the DiaDem navigator with question mark icon.

Can you tell me how to load the channels with the "LVM" DataPlugin?

Hi Dewey,

By default DIAdem will load any file with the *.LVM extension using the LVM DataPlugin, so just dragging and dropping that LVM file from the NAVIGATOR tree view into the Data Portal should cause the custom LVM load event to fire, if it is properly registered.

How about if you send me one of those LVM files so I can test it on my computer?  That will tell us if the problem is in the file or outside it.

Also I noticed that ALL of the files (*.tdm, *.lvm. *.xls, *.txt, etc.)  in the NAVIGATOR window have a question mark icon. How do I get rid of the question mark icon?

For some reason it would not let me attach a *.lvm so I tried to add a .txt extension. Not sure if you got it through the message board. If you didn't, please give me your email and I will send it that way.
