Invincible 3D Model

Dear all,

I'm still a newbie on NI Insight, but when I tried to use it last weekend, here are some difficulties I encountered:

1. Whenever I load an example file that has 3D model in the layout, the model does not appear. I could see the colorbar on the bottom of the 3D model window but the model itself is nowhere to be seen. Same thing if I drag and drop the model file from the explorer (on the right hand side) to the presentation screen, same thing happen as well - no 3D model is shown. What's wrong?

2. Still on the same issue, I tried to print screen to get the image to be posted here. However, whenever I do that, the computer hangs.

3. What I'm trying to achieve here is to link NI Insight with MSC.Softwares. The manual indicates that the 3D CAD model can be imported into Insight using VRML file. However, the manual does not mention anything (unless if I've missed it) on the simulation anylisis files (the format and how to link the two). Please advice.

Many thanks for the help!!!

Hi Lan,

You might try turning off video acceleration in your video card settings, I've seen that fix this problem on some computers.  Note that Insight is a visualization only tool-- it does not carry out any analysis, so there is nothing it can do with the "simulation analysis files" other than visualize data that you may have generated with simulation.

Dear Brad,

I'm using Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset, one of those integrated video cards installed in Dell Inspiron notebooks. I went through the available display options but couldn't find anything on 'video accelerations'. How do I turn this feature off then?

That is exactly what I intend to do: To present the comparison of the FEA simulation and physical testing results graphically and using plots. This presentation is mainly for the 'management guys'. Having said this, does anybody has the answer for my second question? which is the required analysis file.

Help is much appreciated.

Hi Shazlan,

I have forwarded your scenario on to R&D, and the first question they asked was whether you're using Windows XP or Windows VISTA.

Ohh silly me. I should have mentioned this earlier. I am using Vista. I hope this is not the cause of the problem... Let me know.

Hi Lan,

I'm afraid it is the cause of the problem.  I checked with R&D, and they said that INSIGHT has never been tested on VISTA and is not rated to run on VISTA.  Is there any chance you can find a Windows XP or 2000 computer around there somewhere?

Hi Brad,

Ohh boy, that's what I'm afraid of.

I've found this document, however, that says Diadem is compatible with Vista (http://www.ni.com/pdf/products/us/diadem10_technical_data.pdf). Since Insight is technically called Diadem Insight, doesn't this apply? Please clarify.

Thanks.

Hi Lan,

Only the latest version of DIAdem, 10.2, is VISTA compatible.  All previous versions of DIAdem were not VISTA compatible.  Most NI software applications became VISTA compliant this (2007) calendar year, but there was no release of INSIGHT this year, so the INSIGHT code base is still not compatible with VISTA.

Also, DIAdem and INSIGHT are completely different products.  The term DIAdem-INSIGHT is pure marketing branding.

Sorry for the bad news,
