TDM addin for Excel stopped working and does not seem to be able to be reloaded in Excel 2007

I have been using the TDM addin for Excel for weeks and it stopped working after my system crashed (for an unrelated issue).   I am running Office 2007 on a Windows XP machine.   I have tried to unload the .COM ad-in and it takes it off the list of add-ins, but it still leaves the icons in the add-in section.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the TDM Excel addin software (cleaning the register after each try).  It does nothing to improve the operation of the add-in.   Instead, the icon just stays in place and will not respond to clicks.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi tochs,

Have you tried the posted troubleshooting steps for Excel 2007?

Brad:  I have already tried the posted procedure.

The difference between this situation and that which is posted is that the icons for the importer never go away in my instance but don't work.

I have gone through the uninstall of the com file and then reinstalled it.  I even tried completely uninstalling the importer from the computer and from Excel and the icons remain even though the com ad-in section shows they are not there.   Then when I reinstall and add them back to the com section it shows them there still and shows them as a com but it does not work.    I even tried downloading the utility again and starting from scratch.  It just will not work and the icons will not go away.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Sorry, I thought both scenarios were described in the Excel 2007 troubleshooting page-- as there indeed are for the Excel 2005 troubleshooting page (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5874😞

1) Remove the TDM Excel Add-In from the Excel toolbar manually.
On the Tools menu, click Customize, and then click the Toobar tab.
Highlight the TDM Importer and click Delete.
2) Uninstall the TDM Excel Add-In.
3) Install the TDM Excel Add-In again.

But I do understand that you're saying you can't get step 1) to work at all, so we're at a standstill.  I will run this scenario by R&D and see what they have to suggest.

What version of the Excel TDM Addin are you working with?

Brad:  The version seems to be 2.0.1.4.   That is what is on the DLL in the program files section (but I can't run it to tell from that).

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

There is a newer version of the Excel TDM Add-in that will be installed with DIAdem 11.0, which is already in Beta and will release pretty soon.  When DIAdem 11.0 releases, we will post this newer version to the download page where you got your current one.  Still, it sounds like we won't get your TDM icons to respond until we can successfully remove them from your Excel 2007.  Could you comment on how you attempted to remove them?  R&D asked if you were using the method shown in the attached word document.

No, I was not using that procedure.  I was using the procedure found at:

http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5885

Using the procedure you just gave me seems to have fixed the problem.  After deleting the tool bar that way I just went in and reinstalled the ad-in and it seems to be working fine now.   Thank you very much for the help.

Thanks Tom,

I'm glad to hear that worked for you.  I didn't realize that this step was missing from the Excel 2007 troubleshooting web page-- we will add this in as part of our DIAdem 11.0 updates to the Excel TDM Add-in web pages.

Thanks for alerting us,
