Does the DAQPad-6507 support tristate?

Hi,

I'm currently using LabVIEW 7.1 with the USB DAQPad-6507 (traditional DAQ)

I would like to know if the 6507 supports tristate. From the below link, it seems as if only the PCI-653X devices will support the tristate mode.

http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=180&message.id=12453&query.id=106902#M12453

Unfortunately, I found some other information on tristate mode in this thread:

http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=70&message.id=4731&query.id=106912#M4731

But I cannot use DAQmx due to the fact that the DAQPad-6507 does not support DAQmx.

Hello Anthony,

Because tristate is a property of the hardware and not software, the best place to check for support for this property is in the DAQPad-6507 User Manual.  It is not listed in the specifications section, so the device does not support it.  If you need a simple digital I/O USB device the supports tristate, I recommend looking at the USB-6501

Let me know if you have other questions.

Thanks!

Laura

Hi Laura,

Thanks for your help, I was afraid that the DAQPad-6507 didn't have the ability to support tristate mode.

Looking quickly over the USB-6501 data sheet from the link you provided, I don't seem to be able to find that the USB-6501 supports tristate mode either; perhaps you can clarify?

Hi Anthony,

So the tristate property is not specifically listed in the specifications documents for our devices, as I thought it was.  You can see from this tutorial that the DAQPad-6507 does not support tristate (high impedance).  It does have a state that is neither pulled-up or pulled-down that is configurable by setting a switch, but it is not high impedance.

The USB-6501 does support tristate, and this post describes how you set this in software.

Sorry for the confusion!

Regards,

Laura

Hi Laura,

Thanks for the clarification, I see now that the DAQPad-6507 is not capable of tristate mode. I suppose it also has to do with the fact that it is not DAQmx capable also.

I do have another board that should be capable of DAQmx (USB 6016), but it is currently in use for another application.
