Is there a loss of performance using USB?

I need a DAQ interface that will give me at least 16 DIO ports.  I am leaning toward the NI-6501 (connects to the computer with USB 2.0).  Would this have less performance than the PCI connected NI-PCI-6503?  Why would someone purchase the PCI-6503 over teh NI-6501?

I wouldn’t say “less performance” just slightly different. One option that the 6503 has over the 6501 is user defined power-up states. If this was something you needed then the 6503 is a good option. But depending on your application the 6501 may be just fine. -GDE
