We currently are using a PXI-6561 digital waveform generator.
We are only using two of the lines out of the 16 - one for serial out and one for serial in
The communication is asynchronus.
Is the PXI-6561 the best board for this or is there a better option for us?
20MHz clock is our requirement.
It seems such an overkill to use PXI-6561.

Hello nyc,
Given some of the constraints it seems that is the best choice for your setup. Being at 20 MHz, you've already gone past the multifunction DAQ digital I/O family. None of these however include LVDS logic family. Those two put you in to the HSDIO category, where there are two choices: the 6561 or 6562 in either PXI or PCI.
Your setup is a little over-spec'd which is fine, is there something you were particularly worried about?

Hello nyc,
As a follow up there are a few more devices that are directly compatible with LVDS such as the 6583, 6585 and 6587 adapter modules which would be used with an FPGA module such as the PXI-7951R
It is also possible to use our 655X line of Digital Stimulus/Response devices to interface with an LVDS signal. We have a Developer Zone Tutorial that describes how to use the 655X devices here.

Thank you.
It does look like we have the "best" board for our needs.
