4451

I have a DSA PCI-4451, but I can't run the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DSA\NI-DSA Soft Front Panel\NIDSA Soft Front Panel.exe after installing the NI-DAQmx 7.5 and NI-DSA 1.2 driver, error:"National Instruments not detected.", but I can find and test 4451 in MAX.

Should I install the Traditional NI-DAQ driver, instead of the NI-DAQmx? or other solution?

You will need the NI-DAQ Traditional or Legacy to work with the PCI-4451.    The latest version is 7.4.   You can have both NI-DAQmx and NI-DAQ on the same computer.    You might want to look at moving to the PCI-4461 depending on your application.

The NI PCI-4461 has been released making it the highest-performance dynamic signal acquisition (DSA) board on the PCI bus with a 118 dB dynamic range. The release also includes the National Instruments LabVIEW Sound and Vibration Toolkit Version 4, with 10 new Express VIs for simplified application development. These new products add to the comprehensive NI hardware and software tools for sound and vibration applications, including PXI, PCI and USB measurement devices and powerful, easy-to-use analysis software.

In addition to 24-bit output channels on PCI, the PCI-4461 DSA board offers two 24-bit input channels, making it ideal for stimulus response applications such as audio and structural tests. The input-only version, the NI PCI-4462, provides four 24-bit input channels and a 118 dB dynamic range. Engineers can synchronize multiple PCI-4461 and PCI-4462 boards to attain four-input and four-output systems or six-input and two-output systems for applications such as simultaneous 5.1 speaker surround sound test or acoustic holography. Both boards also feature IEEE 1451.4 transducer electronic data sheet (TEDS) capability, which simplifies the configuration of a microphone or an accelerometer measurement. Like the PXI-4461, the PCI-4461 has BNC connectors and does not require a breakout box like the PCI-445X.

The NI LabVIEW Sound and Vibration Toolkit 4 now is easier to use with 10 new Express VIs for interactively developing applications and generating code for fractional octave analysis, frequency response, vibration and sound level and other common analyses. Engineers can customize applications such as integrated vibration level measurements, weighted sound level measurements, swept sine analysis, power spectrum analysis, limit testing and transient analysis.

Kurt I saw your response about using PXI-4461.
I want to use PXI-4462 (4channels) with DAQmx for simultaneous acquisition of signals. What's the right or quick way do do it?
If I use 2 acquisition channels that are located on different 4462 cards then I can just share the trigger (route one trigger to both) and that seems to work. But if the channels are on the same card, then it does not work like that. I think because I share the trigger on the same card, I ran into a task conflict? Do you know of a good example that will get me started?

Thanks

Greg.

There is a good note about how to do this in the NI KnowledgeBase called "Multidevice task support for DSA devices."

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/78E44565FD87E7D686257108007F94F8

DAQmx has the ability to create taks that span multiple devices.    When you include channels from multiple DSA devices in a task, NI-DAQmx automatically synchronizes the devices.

A task can include channels from multiple DSA devices, given the following conditions:

For all DSA devices:

  • All channels in the task must be analog input channels.

  • If the task includes channels from both 446X and 447X devices, you must account for filter delay differences between the devices.

For PXI Devices:

  • The devices must all be in a single chassis, and you must identify the chassis in MAX.

  • If the task includes channels from 447X devices, one of the devices must be in PXI slot 2.

  • If the task includes channels from both 446X and 447X devices, a 446X device must be in PXI slot 2.

PCI Devices:

  • You must use a RTSI cable to connect the devices, and you must identify the cable in MAX.
