"Altenbach is now number 2 before Ben"

As is now reflected in the "Meet the Champions anouement!

You can't say say Molly is not paying attention.

When I am driving, those cars that are following to closely make me nervous (probably has something to do with understanding f=ma and coefficients of friction etc).

...so I will pull over and just let them pass.

I plan on "pulling over" for a day or two (not on purpose, it just works out that way) to let this anoying thing procede (I wonder what it looks from the back). And if the "man of thousand faces" gets close enough, I may have to do this again soon.

BTW: Congratulations to both of you and thank you! I really appreciate how both you have stepped forward and have done so much for the Exchange!

Hmmmm...

Ben, this is not a time for bitterness. And I'm detecting some faint but distinct traces of bitterness in your comments.

Today I was giving my first lecture of the year to a bunch of students, and guess what... all of them were not yet born when I started my career a few years ago. Yesterday. I have hesitated a few minutes to decide whether that was a good or a bad new...

I'm becoming an old man, but still, and for the years to come, I'll remain a teacher, the one who shows day after day where the right direction is... They may run faster and longer than I'm able to do now, but they will always listen to my words...

You are in an even better situation !

"... distinct traces of bitterness in your comments."

That veiled bitterness is probably due to me anticpating that search on the way into site tomorrow AM Smiley Mad or that I should have thrown in a couple of more smiley faces.

No, no bitterness. We have both claimed not to be word-smiths and what I wanted to do was acknowledge the efforts you and tst have put in to the Exchange at the time when the "pieces are moving".

Looking back....

I was climbing the ranks of the "Old Exchange" when the Guru left us with a not so good comment as his bio. ON the Old Excahnge, the top 3 contributors were highlighted with #1 getting his icon dispalyed. I made up my mind that I would work to displace the guru myslef if required. I did not have to. DK came along and took care of that issue. But along the line, I got hooked and also realized that I owed a lot of learnin to Greg McKaskle. So I plodded along taking care never to answer more Q's than he did (In the old days you could do this by commenting on others answers. Comments did not count as answers). So I managed to work my way up to #3 (Christian was absent without leave at this time). But then the new Exchange came along and the next thing you know I was #2! Begging did not work and I eventually had to give into Greg McKaskle's claim that he had to focus on LV8. I really felt like I had been following a crowd that suddenly realized there goal was behind them and I was in danger of being run over. Smiley Surprised

Well it did not take long to realize that I was indeed going to be run over because there were three excellent contributors that just happened to be behind me in the standings but it was just a matter of time before they would pass me. I think I alluded to this in an early edition of "The List" when people where trying to move up. Well, when you are #2 behind DK and Christian, tst and CC are showing no signs of stopping then I would be a fool to think that I have anywhere to move but down. That does mean my contributions to the Exchange should stop. It just means the nature of my contribution has changed.

There have been some wonderful contributors to the Exchange that (in my minds eye) have established mile stones for all those that have followed.

Gorka - was amazing at the time. Imagine, more than 300 answers!

LV-Guru - stoped just short of 1K. He effectively established one of the checkpoints that we celebrate

Greg McKaskle - stoped just short of 2K. Passing Greg is what is required to earn that third gold bar.

I do not intend to group myself with the like of those contributors. They were/are super-stars in my book. I am coming to accept that maybe I can be the matching book-end, with DK at one end, me at the other and all of the rest of the Proven Enthusiastic Veterans in bewteen. Or another way of looking at what part I can play is that I represent a slow and consistant contributor. Anyone who puts their heart into it can surpass my mark. For some of the ambitious young contributors, a resonable challenge (i.e. Can I pass Ben?) will help get them contributing and learning through the Exchange.

Bitter, no. Proud and pleased with what the Exchange has become, YES, very much so!

So to the rest you "youngin's" I promise to "salute" as you pass by. All you have to do is answer more than 4K questions Smiley Wink .

Charly, did you receive my email from a few days ago?

Can't you set your spam software to ignore certain addresses?

E-LIST n°1 - 2006

This is the first List issue of the year.

With 144 active members, there as been no lag with the restart of the activity. Altenbach is well ahead of anybody else with more than 7 replies/day. Our historical leader DK was probably still slightly damaged by the last week-end libations and scores only 3.8 r/d.

Before someone complains, yes there is a bug in ListVIEW : no evolution column ! The vi in charge of the comparison with the previous issue has just gone nuts with the number scheme change. Two solutions : either rename this issue as E-List 53, but you will loose the date info, or patch the Get Last Score vi...

I wish that this year will bring a few new activity records and a lot of young Enthusiasts. Happy wiring to all !

E-LIST n°2 - 2006

I'll keep it short : No major event last week. 153 active members. Tst is again the most active enthusiast, but Devchander is now clearly in the race...
Officially, Ben is still n°3 in the "ratings" column, but that was a close shave ! 😄

at least I'm down to 3rd place in the # of breaks..

E-LIST n°3 - 2006

Happy Birthday to the List !

186 active Enthusiasts last week. Tst is again our activity leader, before DK and Devchander. Ben rose above 5 contributions/d !.. and CC felt upside down to the 69th position 😞
Rolfk was unusually active last week. I guess this season fever is related to the 1000 limit proximity ? 3 weeks to go Rolf !

Do you know there are now more blue List members than gold fanatics (105 against 81) ? Fortunately they are less active (418 contributions against 651) ;).

I was expecting some clever Enthusiast to patch ListVIEW and reactivate the Evolution column. No luck yet 😞
