E-List

Well, it seems Roberto is close to becoming the second CVI miler and that Devchander is running fast enough to be approaching the 1K mark himself.

I just remembered that we never actually tried the suggested experiment of letting all the regular contibutors stop posting for a few days and see whether other people take over. Does anyone else want to find out the results of such an experiment?

I would suggest as a rule that you can not answer a question unless it is about something you posted before the "strike" or no one has answered it for at least 3 days. How about it?

Hmm, I wonder if the calculation is still correct Smiley Wink

A few weeks after having passed the 1000 posts point, I seem to have dropped down to 808 posts. Must be some time warping, or maybe someone at NI decided that some of those post were rather subversive and silently removed them?Smiley Wink

WellSmiley Sad I must have gotten the wrong list somehow. I was shure having scrolled to the last page of this thread which sure enough is getting rather long.

Have fun with this list.

In the last issue (E-List 2006-14)  your reply score was 1083 (NI) and 1075 (The List). I wonder where you got this 808 figure ?..

I was fast with my edit to rectify it but somehow it seems not fast enough Smiley Wink

Rolf,

You have more than one personality on this Exchange.

The most active Rolf is here with 1111 answers

The next Rolf is here with 23 answers

And once again here with 18

Does that help clear up some confusion?

Thanks! I was aware of my multiple personality disorder on this board. Smiley Very Happy

Happened back in the days when I mostly used comp.lang.labview news feeds to post here. Every single difference in the poster email address resulted in creation of a new account, argh!

As to the original problem, I tried to get the latest list, clicked on the go to last page arrow, and picked the list. Seems that the go to last page action was not going as it should have and I got an earlier page with an earlier list.

Now if I only can find the code to actually create these lists Smiley Wink

Charly actually published the code in the enthusiasts 2 thread (you shouldn't have a problem finding it, it's only 200+ posts Smiley Wink ), but that is out of date by now. Also, Molly asked that not everyone run this all the time because it creates a load on the servers.

I haven't really meant to run it. Rather wondered about the implementation of it! Always neat to learn a few things by looking at someone elses code. Especially some of the HTML parsing I would expect to be interesting.

E-LIST n°15 - 2006

213/536 active Enthusiasts. Dennis Knutson, Rolk and Devchander were the most actives (6.86, 6.43 and 5.57 replies/day respectively).
The most significant event was Ben's 4000 replies crossing.

E-LIST n°16 - 2006

222/538 active Enthusiasts last week. This is a new activity record.
Dennis Knutson, Smercurio and Albert Geven were the most actives (5.43, 4.00, and 3.57 replies/day).

I think I found the answer to the already old question : is there a correlation between the activity of the Top Enthusiasts and the weekly active Enthusiasts number ?
Over the last 58 weeks, the correlation between the average weekly reply number of the top 3 enthusiasts and the number of active Enthusiasts is unambiguous : the correlation coefficient is less than 0.002...
Now we know that the number of active Enthusiasts is not correlated with the "leaders" activity, neither positively nor negatively. No need for an experimental Enthusiasts strike to clarify the situation.

Still, is there any reason to explain the activity variations (between 90 and 222 active Enthusiasts each week) ?
A plot of the number of active Enthusiasts against time gives a partial answer. The correlation is slightly positive (0.34), but this could be a mere artifact : with time, the Enumber will increase indefinitely, and the probability for anybody to contribute increases accordingly... As a matter of fact, a better correlation (0.496) is found between the active and overall Enthusiasts number, with an apparent ratio of about 1/3.

So, the question is now "Apart the time related progressive increase, what's the reason behind the variations of the active Enthusiasts number ?".
A few additionnal whys :
- Why is there is a strong correlation between the weekly activity of the second and third Enthusiasts ?
- Why is there is a progressive decrease of the average activity of the top Enthusiasts ?

The file presenting the above data/results has been attached.
