Laura, I currently have this comment marked as unread - http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Scroll-Bar-Property-for-Clusters/idc-p/1273288#M8142
In the main forums page, the IE shows one unread post, but this post does not trigger the appearance of the unread module and when there are other unread posts, this post does not appear in the unread module. This has been like this for the past few weeks.
Marking that post (or others in that thread) as unread produces the same results every time. Any idea what might be causing this?

Unfortunately I don't know. I've tried to reproduce by marking everything as read in one of the idea exchanges and then marking a comment as new on one of the ideas. In both IE and Firefox, I see the unread discussions module after I do that. It must be something specific with that one comment because I can perform the same test with the comment and see the behavior you've described.
I will report it.
Thanks,
Laura

This is turning out to be a real annoyance. In the past couple of days there have been six new messages posted and I have no idea where they are. Can you ping Lithium on this again to see if they have a projected fix date? As we said in the past, an option to simply see the IE like all other boards would be welcome and should solve this.

I've been seeing this today. When I got on this morning there was about 15 new messages, so I opened them all up from the unread messages thing. When I went back, it said there were 5, but there was no unread message module.

Also, performing the following search which shows recent posts and should presumably show these if they're new does not show the bold posts, indicating that these aren't new posts.

I've seen this myself occasionally. Most recently was a day or so ago. But probably 2-3 times over the last 4 weeks. I'll see on the thread board that I have 1 New message. Go into the idea exchange and no threads are listed on the right hand side as having unread messages. Since I know that I have seen all the messages on the board (I try to keep up with that one to keep new messages to 0), I go into the Ideas exchange and select Mark all messages as Read to clear it the one unread message. I figure 1 message I haven't actually read, assuming this lost message really exists, isn't too big of a deal.
Now if I went into the LabVIEW board and picked Mark all messages as read, suddenly about 300,000 messages I had never read would be cleared. And I like having the history of knowing whether I ever read a messge before if I go to it.

I do the same thing, in terms of clearing the phantom unread message and trying to keep it at 0. I keep the Idea Exchange, Breakpoint and Feedback forums at 0, since they move slow enough that I can actually keep up. I've not noticed the phantom unread messages on any board other than the Idea Exchange.

I have a theory of why this might be happening. Hear me out.
Tonight after I went through and read all my unread messages on the Idea Exchange, refreshing the board listing all threads still showed 5 unread messages. Double checked the idea exchange and no threads listed on the right hand side as having unread messages.
I had a lot of new messages in the DAQ idea exchange, and noticed that there were many completely new threads (all messages unread) but the last message of those threads were by G-Money saying he was going to move the thread to the DAQ idea exhange. The messages above his that were also marked new were plenty old enough that I would have already read them in their original board.
I'm thinking G-Money adds a message to the thread in the LabVIEW Idea Exchange saying he's going to move them. Now there is a record of a new message I haven't read. Then the thread gets moved to DAQ Idea Exhange. Since they are all new messages in the new board, they all get marked as new (even though I had already read all but G-Money's in the previous board.) I go through all the new messages on the LabVIEW board and read them all. But there are still some marked as new, but since they don't actually exist on that board anymore to show up and be read to change their marking to Read. The only way to clear the count of new messages is to use the board option to mark all messages as having been read.
The number 5 for me all in one night is kind of large, and seems to be in the neighborhood of about how many message threads were moved. I can't be sure because I never thought to count them until well after the fact. But checking the list of message threads with the word Exchange in them in the DAQ Idea exhange shows 5 messages by G-Money between 12:24 and 12:35 AM this morning. I hadn't checked in the DAQ board all day, but had checked in the LabVIEW Idea board throughout the day, but was too busy to get the board checked all they way down to zero new messages. But I don know I had 0 new messages by last night yesterday. There were also G-money posts about moving on 2/15 and 2/28 which could easily correlate with the stray missing new posts I had seen over the last few weeks.
Does this make sense?

Yes, this explanation makes perfect sense.
A couple of days ago I had one phantom message in the IE and didn't reset it so that I would remember to post the complaint. This seems to correspond to Grant's post from 28.2 where he moved a thread. Then I got another 5 (like others), bringing my current total to six. If you look at Grant's tracker, you can see that those are indeed all the threads he moved at that time.
I'm convinced enough that this is the reason for this, so now Laura has something tangible she can take to Lithium. Good catch.

Although, just to clarify - Ravens' theory explains the new ghost posts perfectly, but it does NOT account for the issue in my original post, so these seem to be two different issues.
