Hello NI Discussion Forum Members,
I am pleased to announce that last night we upgraded the forum software! While this upgrade brings us a few immediate new features and bug fixes which I list below, it also lays the groundwork for a new rating system. In the coming weeks I will be soliciting your feedback surrounding some of the options in the new rating system so watch for those posts!
Changes:
1. Board pages width has decreased (example: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board?board.id=170). This is to prepare for rating system changes because new boxes will be placed along the side of the thread list.
2. New WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor: Includes spell check for FireFox and "Paste from Word" which allows you to past text from Word without having formatting problems. Fixes a variety of problems with had with the old editor and adds increased image capabilities. When inserting an image, you can specify the pixel size of the image so it will be automatically resized.
3. Subscription emails: For subscription emails that contain only one post, the subject of the post is placed in the subject of the email.
4. Attachments no longer lost on preview
5. Cannot scroll back through tags fixed
6. Tagging enabled for all users
Please feel free to reply to this post with any questions or concerns.

Yup It had a very cramped look. But no problem at all and we are really eager for that new rating system.

I don't see it. I had it after the upgrade, but after shutting down tagging in my profile the width went back to full screen.

Ah, finally. 🙂
muks, I explained the reason for the broken images in the other thread. Laura said she's looking into it. No need to ask about it in three different threads.

Hi tst,
You're right - the board page width is only less if you display tag clouds in your profile. Once we start down the ratings change path, there are more boxes like the tag cloud that would display at the side of the page. When the time is right I will list out the new features we would see there.
Thanks,
Laura

When inserting an image, you can specify the pixel size of the image so it will be automatically resized.
I hope that images above a certain width will get resized to a reasonable width automatically, even without user interaction. There should be an upper size limit for embedded images.
I assume that clicking the resized image will open a full size picture in a new window. Is this correct?

I'm just hoping they'll all have a disable option. I for one do not like the narrow version and I don't really care about the ratings.
I'll check on this - thanks for bringing it up.

Hi altenbach,
You have to click on the image attachment link to see the full size image. Unfortunately, no improvements were made for auto-scaling embedded images. I will keep reminding Lithium of this feature request.
The new image functionality has made it easier to go back and edit your image size if you realize the picture is too big - you can highlight the image and click the image button again and you will get the dialog allowing you to resize the image. This will also make it easier for me to edit posts where users have added images that are too large. Before, it was a very time consuming process for me because I had to download the image and resize it using other software.
Thanks,
Laura
