RayF, you'll have to answer questions for me since I'm still offline... although it knows that I just logged in...

Hi Everyone,

A quick update:
  1. I am working on the editing time.  I will post once it's changed.
  2. I just had the system think that I was offline while I was signed in  Smiley Surprised  I'll send in the bug report
  3. tst - I understand what you mean about the icons and will send in a bug report/product suggestion about what we believe the behavior should be.
Thanks!
Laura

Ok - I've increased the time limit for editing posts to 10 minutes.  I cannot move it much further because all posts to the forums are synchronized to our newsgroups, and we do not want to introduce too much change in content between the two.

Thanks,
Laura

Laura.

Are there some statistics on the newsgroup use? Is it really still worth maintaining them? They are so last century. 😄

How about a longer timeout in forums that don't have a newsgroup mirror (e.g. feedback or breakpoint)?

Hi Laura,

Not a bug report this time... or may be ?

I just noticed that it is not possible to include the source message during edit. Is there a reason behind ? Is that something you could fix ?

And, I insist, the 5 mins edit time window is wayyyyyyyyyy too short ! Give us some oxigen please 🙂

Hi CC,

I am not sure what you mean about the source message - when I edit a post, the post itself is still there...  is that what you mean by source?

Thanks,
Laura

I don't think we can use the "quote post" button when editing a post.

Let me try....

(edit)

Yes, that's it! The button is missing when editing a post!

of course JLV has to try...

i should be able to quote altenbach..

Actually, Altenbach, this may be normal...
You may want to quote someone when you reply, but not typically when you edit the post (after actually submitting it once).
I can't remember, but did the previous version allow you to quote in edit mode?

No that was never possible. 🙂

However, I don't see why quoting the original post should be disallowed, it would just need to remember what original post the reply belongs to.

For example, imagine you are replying to a complicated post and forget to quote an important line. Wouldn't it be nice to edit the post and add the quote later?

RIght now, we would need to e.g. start adding another reply, quote, cut, cancel, edit first reply, paste, etc. Of course you can also do all the html manually. 😉

I agree with you..  It's a nice feature..  Certainly to someone like me who abuses it often..

🙂  like smileys!!
