NI Discussion Forum Upgrade - November 2, 2007

OK I'm back.

IE6 is what I have on my machine here at work.

Im not sure if this is the problem you are referring to, but when I look at threads and then use the Back button to go back to the main forum, the threads often show up as bold or unread. I have found that clicking Refresh on the webpage causes them to change to unbolded and read. Hopefully that is a workaround for your problem.

As a note, what I am talking about did not happen before the upgrade, threads would simply show up as read as soon as I visited them (correct behaviour).

Essentially, if I go into a page and go back before the page loads, the message is still marked as unread in the board view. The system knows the message was read, but it doesn't display it.

I didn't stress how much of a problem this is, because I only posted after reading a few threads, so I'll do it now - this is a serious usability issue. It means I don't really know which threads I did or did not go over, since it seems that this sometimes happens even if the page does fully load. I'm not sure what causes this, since it doesn't always happen.

I'm guessing no one else saw this, since I didn't see anyone mention it.

Hi tst,

I ONLY see this behavior when using the browser back button in IE6.  When I click onto the board name at the top of the thread, or use the <<Message Listing link, the threads get properly marked as read.  Also, if I refresh the page after using the back button, all threads are appropriately marked.

tst, Ben, or Dennis - can you confirm that what I state is also true for you?

Thanks,
Laura

I have started to to a refresh after a back and it seems to properly update.

My use case is

Look at my mesages

If one is bold click on it see if I need to reply, else back

Once all of my posting are clear I go to LV lather, rinse repeat.

Without those viewed message changing from bold to "read" I was getting caught in an endless loop.

So if I do a refresh after every "back" I have a work-around.

This used to work just fine before that thing happened on Friday.

Keep telling me I'm logged out when I click on the "User Profile", something crazy since when logged out you can't access this setting !

Hi CC -

What browser are you using? What link did you click on?  From the screenshot it looks like Dashboard?

Thanks,
Laura

My sixth sense is tingling, I can feel a vision coming to me, its coming into focus, there it is!

It appears that Laura will not be able to make it to the LabVIEW Champions meeting this month.

Oh but now the vision is fading.

I'll guess I'll just have to wait until Wednesday to find out what will really happen. Smiley Very Happy

The "stealth stars" bug was aimed at me I'm sure.

(where is that paranoid schizphrenic with psychotic tendancies emoticon when you need it Smiley Surprised )

Well they have hit their mark.

I now have absolutely no idea if I am helping people or just making them more frustrated.

I can see the count go up, but can't find them, even after refreshing.

Am I not going to go because you've given me so much work to do?  Smiley Wink

I think that I will be there!

Yes, Laura, the page refreshes properly when pressing refresh. I think we're all seeing the same thing.

The problem for me is that pressing refresh occasionally is not really an option (it takes the page too long to reload). The best immediate workaround for me is probably to install FF.
