NI Discussion Forum Upgrade - November 2, 2007

Yes, Laura, the page refreshes properly when pressing refresh. I think we're all seeing the same thing.

The problem for me is that pressing refresh occasionally is not really an option (it takes the page too long to reload). The best immediate workaround for me is probably to install FF.

Hi tst,

While I personally prefer Firefox, I wouldn't want you to use a browser you didn't like!  While Lithium is looking at this and we are waiting to hear back from them, instead of the refresh option because it takes so long, can you use the Message Listing link instead of the Back button to return to the board view page?

Thanks,
Laura

The "stealth stars" bug was aimed at me I'm sure.

Well they have hit their mark.

I now have absolutely no idea if I am helping people or just making them more frustrated.

I can see the count go up, but can't find them, even after refreshing.

Ben

A few thoughts about the stars:

1.  The stars don't show up immediately when you rate a message, but they do show up a few minutes later next to that message (under the user's icon)
2.  Stars are not showing up at all on the board view screen.  Look at this thread for an example.
3.  After a few minutes (about how long it takes for #1 to happen) you can rate a message again!
4.  I doubt Lithium will do much work on the ratings bugs because they are in development for a whole new rating system.  Perhaps instead of trying to work with these new bugs, we should think about disabling the rating system all together for right now.  This is a conversation we should have in another thread, a few days from now, after the dust settles from the upgrade.  I will set a reminder on my calendar to start a thread for this conversation at the end of this week.

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Ben,

I don't understand this bug - When I look at the reply number it appears correct:

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks,
Laura

No, because that goes back to the top of the page.

I don't have any real problems with FF. The main reason I don't use it is because of this issue (which I've also seen on a couple of other sites). Since it seems to work now, it might be easier to use it.

What browser are you using? What link did you click on?  From the screenshot it looks like Dashboard?

Sorry Laura, but among those bugs, seems there is even another one : I can't see the screenshot in the post you are refering to. The link was "Dashboard". The problem disappeared few hours later.

And don't forget to ask Lithium if they also could solve the refresh problem on MacIntosh (Using Safari) !!!

Hi Everyone,

I appreciate the time you have taken to tell me about the issues you see and to answer my follow-up questions.  I have compiled a list of the things you have reported (in no particular order):

  1. Can't post to LabVIEW Fans of LEGO - fixed
  2. Messages not marked as read in IE6 and Safari when using Back button - reported to Lithium, they are looking into it
  3. "Sort Threads by Newest Message" turns itself back on
  4. Third attachment text is cut off in CC's posts (see image below) - I could not find another example of this
  5. Reply numbers are backwards - follow-up questions posted for Ben
  6. Ratings:
    1. Not showing for threads at the board view
    2. Can rate posts again after a few minutes
    3. Stars don't show immediately after rating
  7. After replying, the browser returns to the message that was replied to, not the reply itself
  8. Floated Board order changed, with no apparent reason for the new order
  9. User's online status and last connection date is now missing
  10. Options button is white, can we change it back to black?
  11. Post page still loads slow (I don't think this is linked to the upgrade, but it is something Lithium is working on)
  12. Error message when clicking back before image is fully loaded.

Hi Laura,

RE: Numbering error.

I have posted near a dozen times to "...take a look at reply #7 in this thread ...)to people asking about 3d graphs.

Well my posting sequence (in that thread) no longer starts at post #7 but now its #9 since it is 9 from the end.

Another case:

See attached.

I am not the only person to cite post#'s when directing people to solutions in long threads.

Yes I view pages with newest on top.

Post #'s are the number in the thread not the index of the frame they are displaying.

Ben

Hi there,

Is it a coincidence that since this upgrade I'm getting an email notification of every new post, rather than a weekly email?

Anyone else seeing this?

Its a coincidence just like if you change that tire that is very flat on the bottom and your car starts to handle better. Smiley Happy

I subscribe to the daily so I can not confirm.
