Great question tst -

Well, I think if we choose "Knight of NI" that would be the entire name of that rank.  Proven Knight of NI Veteran might look a little funny, but Proven Inspirational Veteran sounds fine.  So it will depend on the name the community chooses for the next rank before we can determine if we'll drop the Proven and Veteran parts. 

What do you think?  Does that make sense?

Also, to address Ben's question about how many posts it will take to achieve the next rank: 

We can assume that the next rank will be between Enthusiastic (2000) and Dennis Knutson (almost 8900!).  I'm not currently saying a number because we have yet to decide how we want the ranks to increase after that.  I'll post the number before starting the poll so that everyone can be sure what they're voting on.  I think we'll also make a rank above Dennis in the near future as well so we'll have to make sure whatever we choose can be trumped!  I'll post more details about this later.

Laura wouldn't it make sense to poll for a system after Proven Enthusiastic Veteran? Because if we now just vote for one rank, the whole discussion will start over again in a few weeks, months or whatever.

I'd rather prefer to vote for a system which is used from the P.E.V. onwards. So this leads me to the system Ben introduced (Knight of NI order of the...). So if for instance the community votes for this, we could discuss the different "orders" right afterwards and then introduce the new system.

Laura, do consider the 'mere Mortals' ( that would be majority of us!) while fixing a milestone for next rank.

Almost equivalent of "between 1 and 4 1/2  lifetimes"

I agree with Becktho, I think the current pattern should be changed after PEV, to become just "Knight of NI rank of ..."
about the number of post... well... 8k is alot... maybe a new order every 1 or 2k.

OK we have been knocking this around for a bit.

First:

Dennis was first ack'd at 1K. I suggest we insert a new level at 1K between the the current ranks.

Second:

Keep PEV for 2K thru 3K.

Above 3K we drop the bars and contributors become a "Knight of NI".

At 4K we introduce the "orders of the ....".

If there is to be another level.  How about 5K posts?  Oops... Ben & others are almost there already..  so 7.5K posts... 

It looks like NI Knight is a popular one, although I think 2K Enthusiast is already enough..

By the way... I was wondering how it would be possible to keep the 3 color bars with adding an intermediate rank between Active and Enthiusiat at 1k...
Maybe this is not such a good idea...
