Just to add another datapoint, the Verizon forum (also by lithium) also has crunched the maximum horizontal width.
Maybe this is dictated by Lithium. Bad! Bad! Bad!

This is not dictated by Lithium, the forums do not have Red Kudos buttons for example. It affects Jive content as well and is dictated by settings in a CSS file with 'NI' in the name. Lithium did not upgrade recently causing this change, NI.com "upgraded".
If you can give yourself Kudos, that is a Lithium problem. If the forum search blows, that is a Lithium problem. If you give the forums a fixed width area to fill, that is an NI problem. (How it fills the width is a problem that could fall in between the two). Jordan said as much, it was a deliberate move on their part.
There is no shortage of websites which follow the 960/980 grid layout. It does not make it better for them or for us. I would even argue that the Verizon crowd may be more representative of the world at large than LV users in terms of monitor resolution.
NI could fix this yesterday if they wanted just like they fixed the image offsets.

Sorry for my poor choice of words. By "dictating" I meant that lithium might provide recommendations on best practices to their clients. I fully agree that NI should allow the width to be more flexible.

Thought for a second you were trying to let NI off the hook.

Anybody tried the tiny-bitty link below called "Contact a Technical Sales Representative"?
I wanted to tell them to get to that JordanG fellow and...never mind.
Well, as soon as I clicked it, the page was replaced by a bare bone one (first mistake, please open a new tab) with...my own number (hidden here)... and sure enough I received a phone call (from noone, it basically puts you through the usual for XXX press 1, for YYY press 2 type of automated menu).
So, after the website for and by robots, the links by answering machines for answering machines...
I am sure that this all part of an immense joke that will end on April 1st.
Edit: I used this link to send my feedback to NI: https://www.ni.com/contact-us/feedback/en-us/

(OK youve been around long enough) Jordan might not like being refered to as a fellow. And, all you really need to do is post using her name. She hears.

I love the new layout! Especially the centered, max-width page.
Characters per line is a characterized metric of readability and usability in typography, and this metric would score better with this redesign. The fixed-width, centered page is two significant steps forward, the smaller font is just a small-CSS-declaration step backward.

To be fair, for those of you who prefer full-width forums, it's a single stylesheet override declaration, which may be applied using your browser-stylesheet-override-plug-in-du-jour for *.ni.com sites:
.MinimumWidthContainer { width: auto; }

Hi all,
Just as a heads up - I've met internally with a few different managers on our web team to discuss the fixed width changes. One of those managers, Maureen, should be posting to this thread today with a bit more information and clarification, so be on the lookout for her post.
