Page limit on Threads?

Is there a page limit to a thread?

The Enthusiast2 thread is currently at 15 pages, but I'm getting thread notifications by email about new messages that don't seem to be there. The three links below are what I got this morning, but they go to earlier pages in the thread.

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

Ed, the posts are there. This is an example of the behaviour I was talking about earlier in the Exchange Wishlist thread, where a link doesn't take you to right place. Thank you for providing an example.
To see the new post, click the Thread options button (that's near the blue Reply button, at the top) and select Sort thread newest to oldest. You'll jump to the newest posts.

Thanks TST, that does seem to work, but doesn't explain why I couldn't get to them originally.

After the wrong page came up, I manually went to the last page (15) and and scrolled to the bottom, but the new messages weren't there. The newest one was message ID 851 by waldemar.hersacher. Only after I did the sort did they show up.

Maybe just because it's Monday?

This is still strange.

If I close the browser after looking a the new messages, then click on the link in the email again, it still goes to the wrong page, and again the new messages do not show up on the last page. I have to do the sort again to get them to show. Doing either sort (oldest to newest or newest to oldest) works.

Are you or anybody else seeing this? By the way, I use FireFox 1.0.1, but it seems to do the same thing in IE.

And it gets stranger everytime I look at it. (maybe I should stop, but I can't help it!!)

I received another new message notification for the Enthusiasts2 thread. Clicked on the link in the mail and it brought me to the wrong page again. http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=130&message.id=872#M872

I then manually went to page 15 and scrolled to the bottom, and there was the new message, but the three older messages listed in the orignal post above were not there. Again, doing the sort made them appear in their proper place.

I just don't get it. Maybe I need more coffee. I just hope it's there when I go looking for it.

Ed,
Here's your explanation, or at least part of it -
Charly posted his posts by clicking on one of the black reply buttons in the middle of the thread. That caused the post to appear at the end of the "sub thread" where he clicked. That's why it was in the middle of the thread and not in the end. This is fine.
When you clicked Sort, the thread was sorted temporarily by date, so you saw the newest posts. That's fine too. You can get all threads to be sorted by date by going into your preferences (in My profile) but you'll lose the ability to see messages in their context, so I don't use it.
What's not fine is that links don't point to messages they're supposed to point to. That's probably some sort of bug somewhere. Hope the Cafe helped.

AAAHHHHRRRGGG!!

I knew that. I even remember reading about it last month (http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=130&message.id=603)

Some Mondays it just doesn't pay to walk out the door.

Thanks again for jogging my memory TST. I did finally page through the Enthusiasts2 thread and found the "missing" messages from CC.

Hey guys -

I too have been confused by the links not taking you to the right message (or page even) when the threads get long. Thanks for the specific examples, thanks for helping each other out, and thanks for making my job so much fun! It's great getting to know all of you through all your fun discussions. This is something I will report to the developers and keep you updated. My personal solution was to change my preferences so that the threads are always sorted newest to oldest.

Thanks!

Hi Molly,

I thought I was the only one having this issue. I didn't want to bring it up, because tst would have sent me to an insane assylum. 😉

Thanks for the continuous improvements with this forum.
