Possible Forums Maintenance

Maybe there should be a distinction between manual subscriptions and automatic subscriptions. The automatic subscriptions should expire automatically after a few months unless they are manually marked to be retained. The list of subscriptions could show the expiration date and users should be able to mark subscriptions as "don't expire", "keep" or similar... 😉

Hi all!
I agree with above post by altenbach, except that I wouldn't let "don't expire" option, I would always limit subscription over time (or/and activity).

Just a question: does performance is related to ONLINE users' subscriptions, or to ALL(ONLINE + OFFLINE) users' subscriptions? Because in the latter case, you could automatically delete subscriptions of long-term unactive users, I mean people who don't log in from (say) one year, can this help?

Hi altenbach,

I think those are good suggestions - I'll pass them along to Lithium.  It would be nice to have very old subscriptions automatically expire.

Graziano - it's everybody.  I now have a list of the accounts with the largest number of subscriptions and will most likely choose to manually purge some of them.  However, I would still like to go through with floated threads/boards, so if you have any of those, please unfloat and refloat the ones you would like to keep.

Thanks!
Laura

Hi Laura!
I cleaned all my subscriptions... Smiley Happy

About the floats, I'm currently using them, but they're just a couple....

Hi Graziano,

Thanks!

To keep your floated threads that you are using, please unfloat/float those threads:

In Thread Options, choose Remove this thread float and then Float this thread to the top so that the floated threads are not removed from your account.

Regards,
Laura

Hi Laura,
I have just a short wish... If the name of the user is too long, it is abbreviated in the forum view. To get the whole name, it would be nice to have a tooltip showing the whole name when hovering with the mouse over the name.

I would have to agree that the truncated names are one of the more annoying features. It would be better if they would just have more than a single line for displaying them.

We asked about that a long time ago and were told that long names were a problem with some langauges, particularly those which use multi-byte encoding for characters.
I think Altenbach suggested the best solution, which was to move the badge one line lower to be next to the rank and that way clear some more space for the name.

Hi Everyone,

An update on this forum maintenance:  It will occur on Tuesday January 15th and will only affect any floated boards or threads that you have.  We will do this first and monitor the performance of the community.  It will not affect subscriptions.

If you have any floated boards or threads that have been floated for longer than 3 months that you would like to keep, please remove the float and then add it again:

Thanks,
Laura

I didn't realize this affected boards as well. Anyway, after unfloating and floating my boards, I see that the behavior change which happened after the last upgrade (where the floating boards order is fixed) is still there - I can't get my floated boards to be in the order I want them to be in.

All of a sudden, today the forum is now very slow.  I tried to open the attachment to the Leaderboard thread and it still hasn't downloaded it (3 min ago).  I don't float threads..
😞
