Posting a message without text

If I post an answer containing only an attachment (no text!), I get an empty page after hitting [Submit Post]. However, going back to the thread, I see that the post actually succeeded.

(This is the reason why I just double-posted an answer elsewhere. I thought it did not work, used the back arrow, and posted again)

Yep, seems to work.

Maybe this is why people sometimes post an NT thread twice. Maybe this should really be disallowed, at least for new threads.

...b..b..but a post with an attachment is not empty. 😉

In that particular case I posted a picture, which is equivalent to about 1000 words using established conversion factors 😄

The code seems to be halfway there. It detects something because it does a special response (shows blank page), but still sneakily posts anyway behind the scenes. Anyway, a blank page is never a good response, because of the lack of informational content. Best would be do show the edit screen again (unaltered!) with a red note asking to provide some content.

Other boards have mechanisms to prevent double posts. It would be sufficent to make an MD5 of each post, keep it in a list for 30minutes, and check if any new posts match an existing recent MD5.

I seem to remember that it worked exactly that way a few months ago (and it would actually not post the message). Something was probably inadvertently changed during one of the updates. I thought the blank page I got earlier was simply a problem with my computer (it was an old one).

This is interesting - I did not know that it occurs.  I will report the issue.

Thanks for the feedback!
