Search feature is missing functionality

The search feature really needs to be able to accept (in any one search) a mix of multiple words and multiple quoted phrases to either include or exclude from the search. We've been spoiled by the likes of Google and any search tool that does not offer at least that level of functionality is lacking.

Have you experimented with the Advanced Search options yet? It seems that most of your requirements can be met from this page. If not, please let us know.

Thanks!

If that is true, then please tell me how to conduct a search using a phrase?

How about an excluded phrase?

How about a search based on two included phrases one excluded phrase three included word and two excluded words?

If it will do any of this I would be surprised.

If it does do any of this then you need to improve the documentation on the search page.

To conduct a search using a phrase, enter the phrase in quotes in the "With all the words" box.

To exclude a phrase, enter the phrase in quotes in the "Without the words" box.

To include/exclude multiple phrases and or words, separate them with a space and include all phrases in quotes as before.

I was successful with each of these methods, but if you have examples I would be happy to research them more. I haven't been very successful with the "With zero or more of the words" field, and I will try to get some documentation that should clarify the search functionality for all of us.

Thanks!

I believe the "With zero or more of the words" field is an OR of the entered words, where at least one must be found. So, it seems like the field names should be:

With ALL the words
With ANY of the words
Without ANY of the words

ALL equates to AND and ANY equates to OR.

Hello all -

I think we have a good idea of what the options in the Advanced Search can provide for us now.

This is the list of operators that the search engine within the forums supports:

+ Use a plus sign before a keyword to include it in all your search results
- User a minus sign before a keyword to exclude it in all your search results
"" Use double quotes to find results that match the exact phrase

Happy Holidays,
