Unable to download files

This is not a discussion forum issue...

Sometimes when I try to download some files that are part of a knowledgebase document, I get the following error. It is not that the file is not accessible. I am able to download the file after a few hours.

Any idea what can be wrong?

Thanks

That really does not look like an error, just an alert. You should only have problems if there are already 750 users downloading.

Are you downloading several files at the same time? Some ftp servers limit the number of concurrent downloads to the same IP address. For example if the limit is two connections and you are trying to download the third file, it will stall until one of the first two connections has completed.

What are you using to download? browser? ftp client? Do you have any misguided extra software installed such as "download accelerators", or similar, etc.?

I was trying to download only one file using Firefox. I don't have any other extra download softwares installed.

Hi Kikiduu,

I am the business owner of the KnowledgeBase.  I'd like to get some additional information from you.  Which KB you were viewing?  If there are multiple attachments on that KB, which one were you trying to download?  Which version of Firefox are you using?  When did you receive the error?  Was it as soon as you clicked on the attachment link?  Did it not appear until after the download window launched?  These specifics will help us troubleshoot.

Thanks and happy new year!

Hello Janell,

Today I was able to download the file.

I was accessing this KB entry and was trying to download the attachment 202880.vi. I am using Firefox 3.0.5.

First time when I clicked on the link, the Alert message that I posted was shown. The file download window didn't launch at all. From then onwards, if I click on the link theit opened the ftp location with no files visible. After that I tried to download the file by 'Save link as', then it said "unable to download".

One more thing happened today. When I first clicked on the link, it showed the ftp page without any files. After that I did a "Save link As' and the file was downloaded. After this when if I am clicking the link, the file download window opens correctly. This happened with both 202880.vi and 202879.vi.

Thanks

Hi kikiduu,

Thank you so much for the feedback.  The document you are referring to is an example program, not a KB and that platform is owned by another group.  I will make sure to pass this information onto them.

Thanks again!

Sorry for the mix up. I am able to download attachments that are part of KB entries. The problem I am facing is with developer zone (example programs?) attachments. I tried downloading the this link and this also failed.

Hi Kikiduu,

Do you mind if we look up your email address to give to the person that maintains Developer Zone content?  She would like to ask you a few additional questions and send along the files you are having trouble downloading.

Thanks,

I am not sure how, but now I am able to download files. May be the last forum maintenance fixed something :smileyhappy:

Thanks
