Timed out error with Fp-2000 while find devices

When I try to Find Devices in MAX (version 3.1) I get the error "The connection to a remote device timed out". With the File Transfer and the Install Software I don't have the problem. I tried to use a different Workstation, different IP Address but the problem persists. Do you have a solution?

What are the status lights on you controller doing? This can give you an indication to the problem.
I had a look for "connection to a remote device timed out" and found a few posts. Have a look at these to see if any help.

I read already the two document, but the problem persist. After the power on of FP-2000 the Status Led is off and the Ready Led of the I/O module is on. The configuration of system is:

- a power supply FP-PS-4
- a control unit FP-2000 (should be bank #0)
- a FP-DO-401 (should be bank #1)
- a FP-DI-301 (should be bank #2)

The ip address of FP is 172.16.1.6 (mask 255.255.255.0), while the hostname is "spider". The ip address of Workstation (Windows 2000 Professional) with MAX 3.1 and FieldPoint 4.1 is 172.16.1.1 (mask 255.255.255.0).

Another question. Is the RT version of your FP controller match the one installed on your host PC?
If the RT versions do not match, this will generate a time out error as you are seeing, but the rest of your functions in MAX will operate normally.

I already tried to change the Ip address and the version of RT Module is the same of RT Engine in the FP (I installed the RT Engine with the "Install RT Software Wizard" of MAX). Furthermore the LabView can estabilish a connection with the FielPoint when this one is setted as Execution Target, but I cannot see the I/O module when I try to configure the FieldPoint Block (for read or write data). This happans because I cannot configure the device in MAX and I cannot add the FieldPoint resource in Data Neighborhood. I also upgraded the OS-Safe mode at the version 10.4. I read that this version of OS-Safe mode have some problems. Is it true (my FP-2000 is about one year old) ?

Now, I made a little network with a Workstation (Windows XP) and the FieldPoint both linked to a ethernet hub. On the Workstation I installed only FieldPoint Explorer 3.0.2. With the FieldPoint Explorer I upgraded on the FP the RT Engine at version 6.1.1. After the reboot the status led of FP has started to flash (number of flashs is 2). The flash of the status led persists when I repeat the upgrade process.
On the Fp the software installed is:

- FieldPoint VI Manager v1.0.28
- FieldPoint WatchDog v1.0.28
- IA Control Enviroment v4.1.6
- LabView RT v6.1.1
- NI Serial v2.0.2

Furthermore, when I press the pulsant "Find devices" I receive the message "No modules were found".
On "Remote System Explorer" I read "Safe mode (Improper installation)" in the States column.

Hi,

the 2 flashes of the Status led are indicating that the software is not properly installed.
As for the Devices not found problem, I don't think the problem has to do with MAX, FP software or LabVIEW 7.1.
When devices are not found, generally there is a communication problem.
This can be possibly due to 2 situations:

1) There is a bent Pin on one of the FP-TB which is making the Fieldpoint bus not to work properly.
2) There are network problems. One way to workaround this might be to connect to the FP-2000 using a crossover cable and link directly to the PC. This avoids any network connection problems.

The last thing you need to take into account is that the FP-2000 module might be damaged and need repair.
If you are unable to get to a solution, contact NI Tech Support at

The "Safe Mode: Improper Installation" message and 2 Status LED flashes both mean that the software in the FP-2000 has become corrupted. You will need to successfully re-install the FP-2000 software. Until the software is properly installed, you will never successfully find the IO modules.

I tried to reinstall the software many times with the same result. But if I install with another workstation the RT Engine version 7.0 on the FP the Status Led doesn't flash. Why ?
