fieldpoint device and iak confict

I've had a fieldpoint analog output channel(s) lock in an "on" condition. Power cycling has had no affect. When investigating the configuration file I get the message that the information is different between the iak file and the device. This has happened more than once. Why is the device losing it's configuration information? Can I address this condition within my LabView VI to help safeguard my equipment?

This issue can not be easily addressed through LabVIEW. This is a configuration issue that is easier to address through FieldPoint Explorer. There are a number of reasons why you may be seeing a difference between the stored configuration in the network module and the IAK configuration.

First of all, network modules store two settings for each module, they store the factory default configuration and the user defined configuration. When you right-click on the network module item in FieldPoint Explorer and choose Edit This Device, you will notice a checkbox titled "Factory Default Configuration". By having this box checked, any time the network module has a power cycle, it will revert all I/O modules to their factory defaults rather than the user configuration. U
nchecking the box and cycling the power will cause the network module to configure the I/O modules with the user configuration.

Secondly, there are two ways to configure such settings as power-up values. Method 1 is to use the Snapshot button (located by choosing Edit this Device on the network module). The Snapshot button takes a "snapshot" of the current state of all channels and uses any current output values (specifically, what any channel is outputting at that point in time) and set's that as a power-up for that channel. This may over-ride and/or conflict with Method 2. Method 2 is to individually configure each module(device) by choosing Edit this Device and clicking on the Channel Configuration button.

From your description, I would guess that your output module has been incorrectly configured with a power-up setting that is different then what you want (probably through the use of the Snapshot button after you had used the Channel Configuration window).

Aaron
