I'm experiencing an issue with an L7805ABP voltage regulator (TO-220 package). I'm trying to regulate an input voltage down to 5V, and my load is drawing approximately 1A. However, when the load is connected, the output voltage sags significantly, dropping by about 0.5V, and the regulator gets very hot within seconds. In contrast, when I use a 1.5A linear regulator based on a different design for the same load, the voltage drop is minimal, and the temperature rise is much less pronounced. Could the actual current handling capability of the L7805 in my setup be lower than its stated maximum?
