State Machine Exercise Review at the Next Austin LV UGM?

Hi Austin User Community,

We have our next area-wide community meeting scheduled for next Wednesday.  Go ahead and mark your calendars now.  You should receive an e-mail invitation to register, likely today.  Please make sure you register, if you are planning on attending, so we can account for food.  A more detailed agenda to come shortly.

From our last UGM, we discussed a couple of community exercises, to help reinforce what we learned about state machines.  We proposed modifying the soda machine, to allow you to select different sodas.  (Don’t worry about graphics, just show the functionality).  We also discussed possibly implementing a CD player.  See the previous discussion thread for some details.

I need to know whether anyone has worked on this exercise, or is planning to work on it.  We can either add 15 minutes to the agenda to review these, or let it go.

Please respond by the end of the day tomorrow (Thursday - 8/11), on whether you are planning on participating in this exercise.  Otherwise, we’ll remove it from the agenda.

I hope many of you were able to attend NI-Week, and enjoyed it.  I’m looking forward to seeing you next week.

Hi Austin User Community,

At our last User Group Meeting (August - 2011), we did not actually review the proposed exercise above - regarding the vending machine.  However, I believe it is still a good concept to understand, and helps reinforce how to use the State Machine Design Pattern.

It turns out that one of the LV Product Managers recently updated the exact exercise mentioned above, for LabVIEW 2011.  It discusses how to change the state machine architecture to allow for the selection of a soft drink.  It even includes exercises on how to implement this yourself.  So, if you are still interested in this concept, please go to the following link.  I think it will be worth your time, if you are new to this concept:

Thanks to Fabiola De La Cueva for seeing this recent post.
