Profibus Serial interface NI OPC server

HI,

Is there any way to use serial interface RS232-RS485 with NI OPC server to communicate to a profibus device (Client)?
Do I have to use a special Profibus interface card? If so is there any suggestions?

Hi Andras,

do you want to use the serial port of your computer or do you want to plug an extra device because you did not have this serial port? If you want to use the extra device which bus typ (PCI/PXI/...) do you need? I guess we have some RS232 and RS485 devices for you see the link for additional information.

You can also have a look to the company 'comsoft' they should have some devices for profibus communikation, which you can use from LabVIEW.

Hi Tom,

I do not want to use any special profibus card if possible.

Hi Andras,

there is no way to use the serial port directly for profibus with any ready-made functionsfrom LV, unless programming the driver on your own. The better way is to use a special profibus card as the one from comsoft. See the link (http://www.comsoft.de/html/icpd/profibus/addons/visa.htm)

Tom, Andras,

Comsoft also provides Gateways that translate from Ethernet or RS232/422 to Profibus. So far I have only used the PCI- and PXI- plugin boards from Comsoft and they come with a very easy to use LabVIEW driver. I don't know how the Gateways are supported in LabVIEW but I will contact Comsoft and ask them to post an answer here.

Hi Andras,

I'm Michael from Comsoft and Jochen asked me to follow up your message.

If you are interested in a Ethernet solution I recommend our latest LabVIEW driver for FNL (Filedbus Network Link). The FNL is a gateway which allows the connection to all PROFIBUS-DP networks based on RS485 and the driver supports DP-Master and DP-Slave mode up to 12 MBaud. I've attached the Getting Started manual for detail information.
