Can't add Agilent 82357a interface in NI-MAX

Hi all,

I too am having a problem with the Agilent 82357A.

I have read many posts and, based upon my reading, I have completed the following steps:

Installed most recent NI-VISA (ver. 3.4.1)

Installed most recent Agilent I/O Libraries Suite (ver. 14.1.8x)

a) Chose to install Agilent VISA as secondary VISA library.

b) Confirmed that USB/GPIB interface is operable in "Agilent Connection Expert"

(attached screenshot shows configuration properties)

Opened MAX (ver. 4.00)

tools -> NI-VISA -> visa options -> general settings -> passports -> checked NiVisa tulip.dll checkbox

Saved settings

Restarted MAX

As shown in the second screenshot, the 82357A is not listed in "My System" -> Devices and Interfaces

Am I supposed to "Create New" interface?

If so, how do the 488/VXI settings in the "Create New..." wizard correspond to the configuration settings listed in the Agilent Connections Expert program?

Screenshots for both are attached.

Thank you for any insight you may offer!

Cheers,

Victor

Hi Victor,

I have seen this work before, so I know it is possible.

You will not need to create a new interface; when everything is set up correctly, MAX will detect the device automatically.

Although it should not matter whether Agilent VISA is installed as secondary, it may be interfering somehow.  I know it's painful, but you may want to uninstall everything, and try again without installing Agilent VISA.

Also, sometimes it is necessary to refresh (F5) MAX to have it display a device, even after restarting it.

Hope this helps,

Victor,

You will not see the Agilent 82357A show up under devices and interfaces in MAX as you would with a National Instruments GPIB card.  You should however be able to use the interface using NI-VISA.  You will need to enable the Tulip Passport.  In MAX, goto Tools>NI-VISA>VISA Options...  Then select the Passports item in the tree.  Enable the checkbox for NiVisaTulip.dll.  The Agilent GPIB interface should now show up in VISA Interactive Control, but I don't believe that it will appear in MAX.

Hope this helps,
