Get plug&play BIOS config error on Dell Win2K PC when install PCI232 serial card

Moved old PCI-232 serial card from a win95 machine to new Dell Windows 2000 machine and installed new drivers. Have tried multiple PCI slots for the card but always see a Plug and Play config error from the BIOS and the card does not show up in the BIOS list of devices in the IRQ settings.

dnorris,

What is the assembly number that is printed on your board? This number has the convention 18xxxxy-xx, where y is a letter for the revision. If the letter is not embedded in the assembly number, you might see the revision explicitly stated. Since we have different flavors of PCI-232 boards, this will help us better identify what board you are using and see if newer revisions would solve your problem.

It sounds like you have done some troubleshooting. I would suggest removing all other hardware from the machine and trying the PCI slots closest to the processor. If your BIOS has these options, try enabling bus mastering and that plug and play OS is enabled.

What is the exact error that you are seeing? Are the PCI slots different in the new
machine versus the old machine? I am not sure how new your new machine is, so I would also suggest contacting Dell or checking their website to see if you have the latest BIOS version.

By the way, your issue was sent to technical support. However, there was an unexpected backlog of requests after the July 4th holidays. We sincerely apologize for the delay.

Hi,

What is the reference number of the email? I can't find any emails on this.

If you have the reference number I can search for it. If not you can send a new email at www.ni.com/ask.

What revision is the PCI serial hardware you are using? The revision is in the part number.

Also, make sure that the BIOS has PCI Bus mastering and PNP OS enabled.

The assembly number on our board is ASSY184677A-01. The barcode number is AE141C. We upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version Dell provides with no change. We have tried removing all other cards except the serial card. The BIOS error says "Plug and Play Configuration Error" immediately after booting the PC and before any windows stuff starts.

What are the differences between various revisions of the card?
