How to use Labview to control GPIB instrument via PCMCIA or USB port?

I want to control on or acquire data from my Racal Dana Universal Counter (which has GPIB port). My PC installed Labview 6i and is it possible to use Labview to communicate and control with this instrument via USB or PCMCIA port of my PC? Because I am new to Labview so I need some recommendations to get start my project. Thank you so much.

You can use either. You can get more information at http://www.ni.com/gpib/find_the_right.htm.

Hi,

GPIB-USB works well and it is convinient to have an USB cable instead of a clumsy GPIB cable to the instrument but:

You must have administrator rights when you start the computer, see the link:

If it is is an issue to log on as an administrator, then an internal card may be a better choice.

Csaba
