IVI compliance package 4.1.0 install error "E:\My Pictures" is not available

Solved!
Go to solution

I am trying to install ICP4.1, on XP machine with no NI boards or software installed.

The installer says:

This installer needs to access "My Pictures". However, this location "E:\My Pictures" is not available. Ensure that this directory exists and is available and run the installer again.

I do not have any "E:\" drive! so I can not create it!

Ok I found the problem!

I needed to add this to registery:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\My Pictures

should have value %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures

with type of REG_EXPAND_SZ

Don't you find it a bit odd that you had to do that in the first place? The "My Pictures" folder is one of the folders that gets created when a profile is created. It's possible you may have a corrupted user profile.

Yes you are right. I tend to change many setting on MS Windows and probably I have messed with this folder.

But I still do not know why the installation should need to access My Pictures! I never had problem with this issue. I tried other installations too and all of them had the same problem.

Wow, thanks for posting your solution.  Installing the 2009 Run-time Engine I came accross this exact same problem.  The profiles on our lab PCs are often a jumble of different band-aids and quick-fixes too, so I wasn't surprised to have troubles.  But I was surprised to find this post!

I don't know anything about the registry, except that I can access it by typing REGEDIT from Run.  Your guidance allowed me to go in and fix this on all the PCs in the lab.

THANKS!!
