Instrument not found

Hi!

I have an MKS 946 Vacuum System Controller, and I have LABVIEW 20.0.0in my computer. I have connected the device via serial port, I have installed the NI-serial driver. Still I cannot find the instrument on NI-MAX. I have tried several methods that I found from this discussion group, still I am unable to find my instrument. Moreover, when I open NI-Troubleshooter, it says "hardware presence is not verified". Please help. NI-MAXNI-MAXNI-TroubleshooterNI-Troubleshooter

Hi

Which serial ports does your system have?

If no serial port is available, could be a usb to serial device, you get this kind of message.

You only have to install the NI serial lib when using an NI serial device.

Hello there,

I am using the RS-232 or COM Port to connect the device. I have installed the NI-Serial driver in my system. Still I cannot find the instrument under "Device and Interfaces". How can I solve this issue?

Do you have a hardware serial port in your system?

Yes, I do have a serial port in my computer, which I used to connect the device. Later, I installed the NI-Serial driver. Still, in NI-MAX, it is not shown under the device and interfaces. Therefore, I cannot communicate with the device.

Hi

Going back to the first mail, did you try the visa testpanel to try to communicate with the device.

Are you sure you have the right cable (swapping transmit and receive happens)

Instrument not found means there is not the correct communication.

etc etc.

Hello Albert,

I did try to communicate with the device via VISA Test Panel. The return data shows no error. It should mean that the device is there, and NI-MAX can identify the device. But still, it is not showing in the tab. I have attached the screenshot for your understanding.

I may try with the other ports to communicate with the device as the serial port does not work. But for my current setup, it is necessary that I have to establish the connection via serial port. That is why I am trying everything possible.

Hi

In fact, this is normal.

On GPIB the devices are scanned for their ID. On serial they are not scanned automatically.

But you can run the initialize vi in VISA and should see the effect. But not in MAX.
