NI488.2 v2.6 Driver Install Corrupts WindowsXP Install

I am attempting to install the GPIB-USB-HS on a Dell Optiplex 760 running WindowsXP sp2. I began to install NI488.2 v2.6 and it then prompted me for a restart. However, the restart was not successfull and I was brought to the screen where you have to chose between starting in Safe Mode, Start Normally, or start using Last Know Good Config. Both Safe Mode and Start Normally did not work so I chose to use Last Known Good Config. Windows then took quite a while to load (mainly pausing while setting up network connections) and when it did finally load, it no longer had IP information and could not connect to the Internet.

I went into the Windows system event logger and found that the Remote Access Connection Manager was terminating with error 0xC0020030. Upon researching this error I found that the TCP/IP interface had been corrupted by the attempted driver install and I then used the program Winsock to repair this interface. With the internet working again and with my IP information back, I tried to move forward with the hardware install. I plugged in the GPIB-USB-HS and the Found New Hardware window surfaced. I pointed it to the correct drivers in the directory from the install, but it said that the driver was either incorrect or corrupt and thus the install failed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the same problem occurs. It occurs on multiple computers as well; however both were Dell Optiplex 760's running WindowsXP sp2. I do not have flexibility in using a different computer/OS combination as I must get this interface working on my current configuration. Any advice?

Thanks,

Justin L

Hello Justin L,

This seems like a very complicated problem that would be long and difficult to troubleshoot via forum postings.  Would you be able to contact National Instruments support directly via phone?  That would be the way that we could make the most progress.

When you talk with an applications engineer, I would recommend pointing them to this forum post for a summary of the problem.

Thanks,

Steven T.

Hi Justin,

I don't notice that we have had this issue before.  I will look further in the issue and will respond again.

Dear Justin,

Zach told me about his conversation with you.  I just want to make sure to include this on the forum as well.

It appears that the issue arises from the particular corporate image of your Dell Optiplex 760.

The best recommendation is for you to install a different image on you PC.

Regards,

Sammy Z.
