Question about oscilloscope in Labview

I´m using a tektronix tds310 oscilloscope in combination with labview7 and VISA. Every time I run the example program for the oscilloscope I get a error message. Look in the fora and knowledge base etc and there was suggested that I use MAX to try and find the device. Max isnt able to find it, but when i switch the cable to the hp34970A it is able to find him. So the question is, should I change some settings or could it be the RS232 port of the oscilloscope isn´t working?

Are the parameters in software for the serial port set up to match the settings that the oscope is set to?

I don't know what you mean by 'find it'. How are you trying to find a serial instrument? Since you can communicate to a different instrument, I would assume that your com port is listed. You can try using MAX to communicate to the scope or just try using Hyperterminal. Serial control of an instrument is not the easiest thing to get going. You may have incorrect com settings (baud rate, parity, etc) or even the wrong type of cable. I'm not familiar with that scope but it is possibleI always verify that the port is set according to the manual and always use Hyperterminal first.

Also, in the future, if you get an error message, in your post you should include the error code that you get. That's vital information in helping to solve problems.

I tried max to communicate to the scope, but I now believe the scope isnt fitted with the harware to communicate wit pc´s. (Although it has the connectors at the back.) We´ll try to find a new scope, hopefully one capable of fft analysis!

Thanks anyway,

Hi Ruudje

Maybe you should enable the rs232 port on the scope setup.
Look for a setup or config-IO button and see what happens.
