Question on selecting and installing driver for GPIB-USB-HS on Windows 7

Solved!
Go to solution

Gentlemen,

I have a GPIB-USB-HS adapter in our department that I want to run on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 machine with a 2011 Base Version LabVIEW installed package.  My VISA is 5.1.  I need this to communicate my Yokogawa WT500 via GPIB, and further build an application to record data to Excel, etc.

I am looking for the proper NI driver online. Can I just select the latest like version 17 that I see out there, or do I have to go back and select something that is more comparable to the 2011 install that resides on this machine?  I tried installing a later one, and I get an error saying its not a valid 32-bit application.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,

Eric

Hey Eric,

Just to clarify here, you are looking for a plug and play driver for the WT500 that will be compatible with LabVIEW 2011 and VISA 5.1, correct? If so, is this the driver that you are looking for:

Yokogawa WT500

I would make sure that you have the NI 488.2 driver installed as well. In general, it is recommended that you check the README files for any drivers that you are installing to ensure compatibility of your installations.

Worst case scenario on this would be that we would end up needing to look through the Yokogawa reference manual to find the expected GPIB commands and then configure those commands in NI VISA.

Best,

Sam R.

Hi Sam,

Thank you for the detailed response!  To be honest I was attempting to use gpib on a Student Version LabVIEW and found out there was no VISA installed in MAX utility.  So when I went to install my USB GPIB HS driver, everything fell apart after that.  Nothing worked right, hang ups everywhere,etc..

I resolved to uninstall LV completely and start again from ground zero, and install VISA 15.5 afterwards.

I am running a version of the WT500 driver to take measurement data,  all electrical power measurements - 2 elements, and then record that to a spreadsheet.  So that's where I'm at with that right now, trying to figure out how to take data with named headers and also a scanned text entry area to identify my DUT, and put that into a spreadsheet or just a simple CSV file, nothing fancy just nuts and bolts data recording for now.

I don't if that's something you have done yourself, or something you maybe more familiar with?

Regards,

Eric

Hey Eric,

This is likely branching off into needing a new thread, so I'll leave this as my last reply on the matter, but here is a community example that should help with the nuts-and-bolts spreadsheet logging:

Getting Started: Write Continuous Data to Spreadsheet (CSV) with Headers
