SRS830 driver's examples cannot run when the sensitivity is set to be auto.

Hi, I am planning to control a monochromator and a Stanford Research 830 lock-in amplifier to measure the light spectrum using labview and GPIB.  What we want to realize is to make sure the output is not saturated nor the opposite(feedback which makes the system automatically change gain and maintain moderate output) and the system has enough delays to settle. But when I set the sensitivity(gain) of the lock-in amplifier to be auto, the program collapsed and reported data overflow and backup error. I don't understand. Is there someone who had a similar experience or have some tips to share? Thanks a lot!

Do you know anything about this SR 830?

Have you read the manual?

Blindly using a driver, which many beginners do, is not recommended.

Thanks for your advice. I undertand the basics of the machine and the software, but I just don't understand what gets wrong when I set the gain auto. Surely I need to know more in the block diagram, but I don't get a clue here, that's  why I am posting this question.

Which SR830 driver are you using?

If you go here, is it the first or second one?

You write understand the basics of the instrument, and yet you don't understand why setting the gain to auto causes problem with what you want to do.

Then you don't understand the instrument's operation.

Thanks for your reply. It is the first one. And I assume the lock-in amplilfier can set the gain automatically via feedback, am I right?

OK, I do don't understand, so please tell me. That's the reason why I am asking for people's help. I am not here for anyone's criticism. Thanks.

Read the manual.

As for LabVIEW, I'd leave it out of the equation until you are able to manually get the instruments to do what you want by sending commands using VISA Interactive applet.
