Tektonix DPO continuous acquisition

Hi

I have a Tektronix DPO. I am trying to write a vi that does continous acquisttion and give me a time average of the signal

I need to have a real time continuous waveform acquisition of my experiment. From time t=0 to time the whole experiment is finished (with respect to magnetic field), for a complete sweep. can you help me with a vi that enables a real time sweep (like t=0,1,2 sec etc)

The details are the magnetic field is ramped up with a step size of 0.05 Tesla in every 1sec, and the response is measured in the photodiodes as a setting for the expt. The signal of the photodiode is measured by the oscilloscope(which should change as a response to magnetic field every 1 sec ). So I need the average value(or the resultant signal averaged over the number of points) of the signal for each field value.

Hope I am clear in explaining.

I t will be great if anyone can help me in this,

Thanks

An oscilloscope is good  for looking at short periods of time.  If you want a continuous stream of data over a long period of time, I recommend getting an NI DAQ card.  Something like the USB-6000 will probably be good enough for what you are trying to measure.

Thanks, but I need the oscilloscope to do that

You CAN'T do continuous acquisitions with a standard bench scope. You can do a single acquisition with a long timebase setting but your x resolution is going to be limited. Smaller timebase settings with repeated acquisitions means you lose data when you transfer to the pc and acquisition is paused. That is simply how the scope works. You've chosen the wrong type of equipment it seems.

Hi Dennis

I have a Tektronix DPO 7354 oscilloscope capable of continuous data acquisition

No, you don't. Continuous acquisition to the screen is far different than continuous acquisition to the pc. To the pc requires that the scope gets triggered, writes to a buffer, the pc reads from the buffer which pauses acquisition, repeat.

Just looked at the product page. Are you running your code on the scope itself?

I dont understand what you mean by that? but i got some vi for the oscilloscope and using them for acquisition in another computer device connected to the oscilloscope via gpib

The scope runs on Windows so you should be able to run your code there and get the fastest acquisition speeds. Not going to happen with gpib.

Thanks Dennis

But I need a vi to monitor all this wrt to magnetic field
