USB to Serial Output on PC with LabView 6.1

Is it possible to use a USB to Serial conversion cable on a PC with LabView 6.1? I need to control a serial chip but do not have a serial port on the laptop that will be running the program, I do however have a USB to Serial conversion cable. Is it possible and how would I go about doing this if it is?

I don't know which brand USB to serial cable you have, but NI's USB-232 convertors work by adding COM port(s) to the system (COM3, COM4, etc.) which can then be used exactly like a built-in COM port. I recommend using NI VISA, but LabVIEW also offers access to the legacy serial vi's (for now).

Hi,
I am using the USB adapter of a brand named Wiretek plus LabVIEW 6.1 and VISA- driver, having no problems with it.
