VISA TCP/IP resource disappears in MAX

I've created a new VISA TCP/IP resource in MAX to communicate with my Tektronix TDS 3052B oscilloscope without any problems. However, when I close MAX and open it again, the resource has disappeared and I can't connect to it through MAX any more. Can anyone tell me how I can get it to show up again?

Are you assigning it an alias from within the "Create New" wizard? There is a known bug with the symptom you describe if you do it this way.

If you create the resource without the alias, then go edit its alias, that should work fine.

I had the same problem and your suggestion worked like a charm. Hope they fix that in the next version of MAX.

Same problem here. However, MAX won't allow me to re-create the resource... saying it already exists. I can see it if I go into
Tools -> NI-VISA -> Alias Editor
From there I can delete the alias, but not the TCPIP resource itself. How can I remove the non-functional resource?

Has anybody figured out how to delete a TCPIP resource which doesn't show up under the Devices and Interfaces->VISA TCP/IP Resources but the ALIAS editor shows they exist?

To delete a TCP/IP resource, go to Devices and Interfaces>>VISA TCP/IP Resources, select the resource you want to delete and either hit "delete" key on your keyboard or right click on the resource and select "Delete". This should also delete the alias associated to this resource. After this is done refresh or open MAX, the resource should be removed from the alias editor.

To skip assigning an alias for the VISA resource, you can simply click "Next" to ignore assigning one at the "Create New VISA TCP/IP Resource" wizard. You can also add/edit/clear an alias by going to Tools>>NI-VISA>>VISA Options and select Alias, it will show the list of resources and aliases on your system.

I had the same problem today with MAX 4.2.1

I wasn't able to recreate the resource and also couldn't remove it, because it didn't show up in the VISA/TCPIP resource list.

I found a way to delete the resources.

1) Go to Tools -> NI-VISA -> Alias Editor

2) Right Click on a Resource which is NOT listed under VISA/TCPIP resources.

3) Then a context menu will appear

4) Click on "Go to resource"

5) Then it will happen!!! All the hidden VISA/TCPIP resources will be shown and you can delete them as described by another user in this thread! (Right Click on resource -> Delete)

Hi Helpers,

I have the same problem with configuring the MAX “VISA TCP/IP Resources”. But the MAX version are  4.6.1. and 4.6.2 Please refer to the attached screenshot for the reference:
  1. create a new “VISA TCP/IP Resource” from MAX\Devices and Interfaces\Manual Entry of Raw Socket
  2. save it
  3. Refresh the MAX from View or close MAS and reload MAX
  4. the “VISA TCP/IP Resource” just created will be disappeared
  5. I have reinstalled the MAX 4.6.1 and still have this issue.
  6. But under MAX Tools\NI-VISA\VISA Options\General Settings\Aliases, I can see all the “VISA TCP/IP Resources”.
  7. I have installed the latest MAX 4.6.2 and then I could not even save the “VISA TCP/IP Resource”.
Could you please help me to sort it out?
