VISA and IVI-Engine on a PXI system under Linux

We have recently developed an IVI driver for a manufacturer of PXI instruments using Labwindows/CVI under Windows 2000. This company now has potential customers wanting to use PXI instruments under Linux. VISA 2.6 is available for Linux, but we still have the following questions:
1. Does VISA support the PXI bus?
2. Is there an IVI-engine for Linux in development or perhaps even available from another source?

Hi Aves,

VISA does support the PXI bus, but unfortunatly there is no IVI support in Linux at this time.

After I posted my question I found a similar question in the forum to which the answer was definitely negative as far as VISA support for the PXI bus under Linux is concerned, but that it is planned for the next release of VISA. What is the planned release date of the next version?

NI-VISA 2.x for Linux does not support PXI/PCI. Even the newly released 3.0 version (available for upgrade this week) does not support it.

I know that we have said we would like to support this functionality in a future release. We did not explicitly say it would be in the "next" release. Nonetheless, I am sorry if you feel misled. There just wasn't time for it. We will still consider it for future releases. Again, no promises at this time that it will be in the "next" version.
