Voltage measurement of Keithley 6514 electrometer via rs-232 through labview version 3

Hello,

I have been trying to work on measuring voltage from keithley 6514 electrometer using serial communication(RS-232).
But unfortunately the version 3 labview which I am using seems like they don't have VISA API interface. But it does have basic serial communication init.vi and write and read subvi's.

Do I need any special instrument driver to make computer to communicate with electrometer via RS-232?
And do I need software driver interface like VISA?

I doubt that you could find a driver for the instrument in LabVIEW 3 and VISA was not supported either. All you should need is that old serial driver. The one thing you should be aware of is the com port numbering. Com1 in windows is port 0 to the driver.
