Why does "New hardware found" keep appearing for a GPIB-USB-B when I redock my laptop?

Hello,

I understand; I will still attempt to recreate the issue in potentially multiple machines and can file a corrective action request if it turns out to be specific to the NI driver!

Thank you,

JLS

Hi. This is Ken Moller with PACCAR Technical Center. I have had similar problems with the GPIB-USB-B device, with or without my Dell D600 laptop (with Win XP SP2) being plugged into the docking station. I mainly have the problem when I am logging in as a user without Administrative rights, and re-plugging in the USB GPIB device, the device wants to be installed again. The problem -- non-Admins can't re-install it.

In asking NI, I was told that they do not register their GPIB-USB device with Microsoft, so it is not "signed". This means that every time it is removed and plugged back in, it wants to be reinstalled.

I have installed the NI-488.2 Version 2.3 drivers that came with the GPIB-USB device I just got today, and still have problems. Another problem is that, even if I unplug it nicely while logged on as an Administrator, when I log in as a non-Admin and look at NI-MAX Devices, I get a message saying it was unplugged improperly by a non-Admin, which wasn't true.

So, if you NI developers are reading this, please, please, please get your USB devices registered with Microsoft and save all of us people who support non-Admin users a lot of headaches. This is particularly bad when they go out in the field to do testing and they can't communicate via their GPIB device.

Thanks.

Hello,

Your point is well stated, and in fact, this stream's previous problem is likely that same issue. It is known and as far as I know it is being addressed! I only hope it is tolerable in the mean time!

Best Regards,

Has this ever been resolved?  I am experiencing the exact same problem on my old Dell Inspiron 8200.  I have not used this GPIB-USB-B unit on this computer before.  Setting a restore point every time I start this seems silly.

I have heard that this problem has been corrected with the drivers that come with the newest NI-MAX -- version 4.3 (as of last August).  I haven't had a chance to test the GPIB USB device out in depth yet, but, on the surface it looks like it is working properly.
