hi, we have the ni-usb-gpib device and  using it with the ni communicater under max. when i search for instruments it finds my signal generator at gpib address 7, but under the id it says "error no leading command". i used the ni-communicator and enter in id?* but it still says "error no leading command".

how do i enter in ID?* with a leading command??can you show an example. do i have to config the "EOS" under ni-communicator(MAX)??

Can you send a screenshot of the message? I've never heard of 'leading command'.

Your command of 'ID?*' is not standard. Are you sure that's correct. What is defined by IEEE-488.2 is '*IDN?'. Quite a difference.

hi, thanks, we were able to get the unit talking for example we wanted to change the freq to 30hz of the signal generator and the command was FRQ:30;, but when i would enter this into the NI-communitor it would say "error no leading command", we tried different things finally the correct command was
"\n FRQ:30;". the signal generator is an old signal generator, but we were able to get all the commands working except for id?* the newer version of the same signal generator uses *IDN?
