usb 485 "unknown device" in device manager.

Hello all,

I have just connected a USB-485 to a test PC.

Sadly the computer does not recognize this device in device manager.

Next I connected it to my laptop, this also was no succes.

The computers have Win Xp on then SP2.

I also deleted ni-serial, rebooted, installed ni-serial again, no succes...

Who can help me, is the usb-485 defect?

Who makes the device? Unless it is NI, installing Ni-Serial is a waste of time. You would need driver from the vendor.

Generally with these devices, you must install the software first and without the device connected.

Then reboot the PC.

Hello darkcxeed,

Can you post a MAX Report of your system so that we can check which software and software version is installed on the system?

Can you also post some more information about the pc itself?

Did you delete or uninstall NI-Serial?

In addition to what Thierry requested, could you look at the properties of the "Unknown Device" in Device Manager, and see what "Hardware Ids" are present? It would be good to plug and unplug the interface a couple times, to make sure it is associated with the unknown device.

Here is a sample of what the Hardware Ids will look like in Device Manager:
